PROFILE – JEREMY NOSEDA

JEREMY Noseda started training in Newmarket in1998 and his career has progressed on an upward curve ever since.

In 2007 season, he recorded well over 50 winners, two of which were Group 1 triumphs. Soldier’s Tale struck in the Golden Jubilee Stakes and Simply Perfect recorded an outstanding win in the Falmouth Stakes.

The year before saw Noseda fulfil his long-held ambition of winning a Classic. In May Araafa produced a stirring performance in the Irish 2,000 Guineas to deliver Noseda and his Shalfleet team a deserved victory in a big one.

Indeed the campaign hit an even greater height as far the yard was concerned when, in September, Sixties Icon provided Noseda with domestic Classic glory in the St Leger at York.

It is not as if such successes haven’t been coming. The trainer had twice hit the post at the same level with Wannabe Grand second in the 1999 1,000 Guineas and Kalypso Katie runner-up in the 2000 Oaks.

As well as tasting Classic joy, Noseda enjoyed his best ever season in 2006 with over £1.26million in prize money being earned domestically by his string, while the half-century tally in terms of worldwide winners was again notched up.

The achievements came on the back of a fine 2005 in which Sussex Stakes’ winner Proclamation was the stable star. The season before that had also thrown up a Group 1 hero with Wilko landing a notable Breeders’ Cup victory.

Good times, but then again, Noseda has known them throughout much of his career. He started out in the 1980s working as an assistant to John Dunlop. Jeremy went on to work in a similar capacity for John Gosden. But it was during time spent with Godolphin that his skills became clear to many in the racing profession.

Hand picked in 1993 by Sheikh Mohammed, who was then launching the now famous racing operation, Jeremy played a major role in the training of such great horses as Lammtarra, Balanchine, Halling, Moonshell and Vettori.
