Roxelana lands the odds

Posted by Jackie Jarvis on 18 February 2012

ROXELANA opened her account at odds of 8/11 in a mile maiden at Lingfield this afternoon.

The daughter of Oasis Dream was having her second career start, stepping up on her recent debut when she was runner-up at the same track.

She was running over a furlong further this time and settled into a nice rhythm under Jimmy Fortune.

The leader, Devote Myself, kicked off the turn stealling a few lengths on the field. Fortune, however, did not panic and went in pursuit aboard Roxelana.

Paul Makin's filly had to work hard to see off that rival but was on top at the finish, passing the post a head in front.

Fortune said: "She was made to work hard but she has won it well in the end."
