Burke's Rock lands HQ prize

BURKE'S Rock was sent off the well-backed 13/8 favourite for her handicap debut at Newmarket on Thursday evening and she duly obliged in good style.

The daughter of Cape Cross had impressed when winning her maiden at Lingfield in February and has improved to take this 17-runner mile handicap.

Ryan Moore setteld Burke's Rock just on the heels of the leader in the group that raced on the far side.

She was left in front with over two furlongs to go and still showed signs of greeness. However, she stuck to her task well and returned the winner by three-quarters of a lenght.

Jeremy said: “I’m very happy with that. She is progressing nicely and still showed signs of inexperience.

“I think she will be better suited by a mile and a quarter.”

Talwar set for QIPCO 2000 Guineas

SHALFLEET will be represented in the first domestic Classic of the season when Talwar lines up in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday.

The son of Acclamation, owned by Mr and Mrs Vimal Khosla, has been supplemented for the mile Group 1 on the back of his impressive success in the International Stakes at Lingfield last month.

Last season, Talwar showed his ability to cope with soft ground when making all in the Group 3 Solario Stakes at Sandown. He encounters a soft surface again on Saturday and will be partnered by former champion jockey Frankie Dettori.

Jeremy said: “It is a sporting gesture by the owners to run and the horse is in good order. He is a seasoned and successful performer in stakes company and will not be inconvenienced by the soft underfoot conditions."

Furbelow wins at Kempton

FURBELOW ran out a ready winner of her 6f maiden race at Kempton this afternoon.

The daughter of Pivotal, who runs in the colours of her breeder Cheveley Park Stud, stepped up on her debut seventh at Newmarket earlier this month.

She made every yard of the running under Jimmy Fortune and set a steady pace in the early stages.

Fortune kicked off the turn and Furbelow scooted clear to win easily by nearly five lengths.

Jeremy on his upcoming runners

UNFORTUNATELY the wet weather has prevented Jeremy from running a number of horses but he is looking forward to saddling Grandeur at Sandown on Friday and Falcon In Flight at Doncaster a day later.

Grandeur will be making his seasonal reappearance in the Esher Cup handicap over a mile tomorrow.

The son of Verglas was second on his debut at Glorious Goodwood before getting off the mark when sent off a short-priced favourite at Brighton last August.

Jeremy said: “The weather has somewhat upset our plans for this weekend. Most probably, we will have a couple of runners.

“Grandeur has been declared to run on Friday at Sandown. He will go on the soft ground but it could a serious test of fitness and I’m keeping my fingers crossed.”

Falcon In Flight got her career off to the best possible start when winning by seven lengths on her debut at Yarmouth earlier this month.

The daughter of Shamardal will have her first run in handicap company over a mile at Doncaster on Saturday.

Her trainer added: “Falcon In Flight is due to be sent to Doncaster for a mile handicap. She handled the easy ground when winning earlier in the month at Yarmouth and this looks the right type of race for her to hopefully progress again.”

Jeremy reflects on good start

THE team at Shalfleet have made a great start to the turf season with Valbchek and Talwar both landing valuable prizes.

The former retained his unbeaten record when making it two from two in the £150,000 Tattersalls Millions 3YO Sprint at Newmarket last Wednesday.

He showed a smart turn of foot that day and looks an exciting prospect for the season.

Jeremy said: “It was a good performance from Valbchek and we were very pleased with him. Hopefully, he will keep improving and I believe he will.

“We will give him another 10 days, then get him back into fast work and decide where we take our next step.”

Talwar took the Listed International Stakes at Lingfield ahead of a possible tilt at Italian Guineas this weekend. However, Jeremy has decided to by-pass that engagement in favour of the German equivalent.

He explained: “We have decided not to take Talwar to the Italian 2000 Guineas this weekend.

“He has taken his Lingfield race well, but we’ve just decided to give him a little bit longer to his next start. So, we will look at the German 2000 Guineas on May 28 for him.

“Overall, I was pleased with the way the horses ran at the Craven meeting. They performed to the levels I expected and allow us to feel positive about the upcoming weeks and months.”

Valbchek in valuable HQ win

VALBCHEK stepped up on his maiden victory to score in the £150,000 Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Sprint at Newmarket today.

The Acclamation colt opened his account first time up at Lingfield last month - but this was a much stiffer task.

Facing two horses with placed Group 1 form, trainer Jeremy Noseda’s charge gave a most promising display to win by half a length.

Jockey Ryan Moore played his part, getting the horse in the slipstream of the early speed before delivering him with a winning challenge from over a furlong out.

He collared Van Ellis just inside the final 200 yards and found more when pressed by Swiss Spirit late on.

Jeremy said: “I’m delighted with that - it’s always nice when a plan to fruition. We went to Lingfield with him to get a run under his belt and prep him for this.

“He is a horse with a lot of potential - albeit still inexperienced - and that was a good performance.

“We’ll probably have to take a step up in class with him next and we’ll probably look at something like the Carnarvon Stakes at Newbury on May 18.”

Regal heads Shalfleet’s Craven team

REGAL Realm will face 12 rivals on her reappearance in the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket on Wednesday.

The Cheveley Park-owned daughter of Medicean is already a winner at the grade, having won the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood as a two-year-old.

This is a stiffer test, but trainer Jeremy Noseda is satisfied with his charge’s preparation for the seven-furlong contest, traditionally a strong 1000 Guineas trial.

He said: “Regal Realm seems to have wintered well and I am pleased with her. Her work has been solid this spring and she is fit and in good order for her first start of the season. Jimmy Fortune rides.”

On the same card, Jeremy will be double-handed in the £150,000 Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Sprint.

He runs Lingfield debut scorer Valbchek and a newcomer in the shape of Nocturn – a colt by Oasis Dream.

Jeremy added: “Valbchek is working nicely, although this is a big step up in class. I do feel that he will perform well but my only concern is whether he is mentally ready for this type of contest as he will be taking on more experienced horses.

“Nocturn is a decent horse but this is a big ask on his debut. We are going for this race with him because of the lack of options over six furlongs in turf maidens at good race tracks.”

Jeremy is planning to run two in the Wood Ditton Stakes – Wildomar, a Kyllachy colt, and Gold Edition, a son of Mr Greeley.

Shalfleet’s Craven meeting team will be completed by Furbelow in the seven-furlong fillies’ maiden. She is a well bred daughter of Pivotal out of Red Tiara.

Talwar takes Listed prize

TALWAR got his season off to the best possible start when taking the International Trial Stakes at Lingfield on Saturday afternoon.

The son of Acclamation, winner of the Solario Stakes last season, was sent off a red-hot favourite and duly obliged under Ryan Moore.

Moore settled him just on the heels of the leader and he travelled strongly throughout.

The leader, Masterel, gave way two furlongs out and it was left to Prince Alzain and Talwar to fight it out.

The former threatened for a while but Talwar pulled out more and won going away by a length.

Jeremy supports local children's hospice

JEREMY Noseda is backing his local children's hospice this season. He and his team have launched a 2012 fundraising partnership with East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

In working with EACH, Jeremy hopes to raise funds for the charity and raise public awareness of childrens' hospice services. One of the key fundraising initiatives will see Jeremy making a donation to EACH every time he has a winner this season.

He will also be part of a Shalfleet team carrying out a bucket collection for EACH at Ladies' Day at Newmarket racecourse on Thursday, July 12.

Jeremy said: "I've supported charities in the past, but they've been further afield, and I wanted to do something within the local community.

"A good friend of mine, Robert Levitt has supported EACH in the past and told me about the charity late last year. I wanted to find out for myself what it was like, so visited the hospice earlier in the spring.

"I was really impressed by the dedication of the staff and saw first hand the care and support they provide. It was a moving experience and has inspired me to see if there are ways in which those of us at Shalfleet can help."

Karen Newton, EACH Fundraiser, said: "We're delighted that Jeremy got in touch to find out more about EACH - and even more delighted that he has made a commitment to support the work we do.

"We wish Jeremy every success for the season, knowing that every winner he has will boost our profile and help fund vital care and support for life-threatened children and their families locally."

Other offers of support from Jeremy include donating prizes for fundraising auctions and hosting stable tours for children and families receiving care and support from EACH.

Noseda outlines running plans for top prospects

APRIL is always an exciting month for flat yards and there is an air of anticipation at Shalfleet as trainer Jeremy Noseda is looking to unleash a number of his top prospects in the coming weeks.

Regal Realm, winner of the Group 3 Prestige Stakes last season, and Reckoning, who won her only start in emphatic fashion at Doncaster, are both being aimed at 1000 Guineas trials.

Noseda said: “Both Regal Realm and Reckoning are under consideration for the 1000 Guineas trials at Newmarket and Newbury next week.”

Talwar is being targeted at the Italian 2000 Guineas in Rome on April 29, although he may have a prep run in the International Trial Stakes at Lingfield this Saturday.

Noseda said of his Solario Stakes winner: “We are aiming him at the Italian 2000 Guineas but he could run before that in a Listed race at Lingfield. It just depends whether we decide to go straight to Italy or give him a run first.”

Valbchek went into a few notebooks when winning his recent debut at Lingfield in style and he will contest the £150,000 Tattersalls 3Y0 Sprint at the Craven Meeting next Wednesday.

His trainer added: “He has come out his debut win well and the plan is to contest the Tattersalls Sprint next week.”

Peter Martins returns to Shalfleet

TRAINER Jeremy Noseda is thrilled that Peter Martins has returned to Shalfleet to resume training as a four-year-old.

The son of Johannesburg was the impressive winner of his only start at two, a novice race, where he easily beat the likes of Listed winner Dux Scholar and decent handicapper Amwell Pinot.

Unfortunately he missed the remainder of that season and his classic year through injury but he remains an exciting prospect for the team.

Noseda said: “I’m delighted to have Peter Martins back in training. He came back about a month ago and is cantering.

“We are keeping our fingers crossed that we can get him back to the racecourse. He has matured physically.

“He was a talented two-year-old and it was sad that he didn’t get a chance to race at three.”

Falcon strikes at Yarmouth

SHALFLEET notched its first winner on the Turf in 2012 with Falcon In Flight giving a very polished debut display at Yarmouth.

The 10/1 shot convincingly beat one or two well-fancied rivals in a mile maiden - and she never put a foot wrong.

Mutasadder ensured a decent early tempo to the race, while jockey Chris Catlin was happy to drop in Falcon In Flight, just behind the favourite Periphery.

Trainer Jeremy Noseda's charge moved smoothly into contention and promptly settled the contest in a matter of strides either side of the furlong-pole.

The Shamardal filly galloped clear inside the closing stages to record a comprehensive success by seven lengths.

Jeremy said: "She was a filly we liked last year and that was a good start to her career. Hopefully, it's the sign of things to come for Shalfleet over the coming weeks and months."

Western Aristocrat ready to go

TRAINER Jeremy Noseda will have runners both home and abroad on the weekend that the domestic Turf season gets underway in Britain.

While Shalfleet won’t be represented in the traditional curtain-raiser – the Lincoln – Noseda will have a runner on Dubai World Cup night in Meydan.

Western Aristocrat, already a winner at the highest level in America, makes his seasonal return in the Group 2 Godolphin Mile.

Noseda said: “Western Aristocrat travelled to Dubai well. We are not going to do too much now before the race, bar tick him over.

“Looking at the race, I’ve been pleased with the horse at home and feel that he has the form which entitles him to be very competitive on Saturday. So, we are just keeping our fingers crossed.”

Triple Charm has had a productive all-weather campaign over the winter and Noseda has given her a couple of entries for this weekend.

The indications are that the four-year-old Pivotal filly will be kept to the polytrack, rather than participate in Listed company at Doncaster this Saturday.

Noseda said: “We are possibly looking at sending Triple Charm to Kempton this Saturday – she is unlikely to go to Doncaster due to the fast ground.”

Two promising maiden winners, Attenborough and Roxelana, are also slated for action with the former heading to Doncaster on Sunday for a mile and a quarter handicap and the latter in at Redcar for a mile contest, also in handicap company.

Valbchek impresses on debut

VALBCHEK overcame greenness to make a winning debut over 6f at Lingfield this afternoon.

The son of Acclamation was sent off the 4/11 favourite and obliged in taking fashion under Johnny Murtagh.

He raced keenly in the early stages but was soon anchored by Murtagh just behind the leaders.

On entering the straight the pacesetter, Aurens, veered dramatically unseating his rider, and leaving the strong-travelling Valbchek in front with over a furlong to go.

He showed signs of inexperience in the lead but galloped strongly to the line to win by two and three-quarter lengths.

Western Aristocrat pleases in gallop

WESTERN Aristocrat this morning came through his final gallop before his imminent trip to Dubai for Saturday, March 31’s Godolphin Mile.

The Mr Greeley four-year-old made his mark at the highest level in 2011, winning the Grade 1 Jamaica Handicap in America last autumn.

He finished his three-year-old campaign with a slightly unfortunate third-place effort in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby.

Eased back to Group 2 company for his seasonal reappearance at Meydan, he will be reunited with jockey Ryan Moore, who rode him in his debut victory at two and also when third in a Listed race at Glorious Goodwood.

Trainer Jeremy Noseda said: “Western Aristocrat did his final piece of work this morning – he covered seven furlongs on the Al Bahathri.

“I was pleased with him and over the last two weeks he has arrived at where I want him to be for the race ahead.

“The all-weather surface at Meydan will hold no issues for him and a mile is a suitable trip, so I think he goes there with a good solid chance.”

Charm continues fine run

TRIPLE Charm maintained Shalfleet’s hot streak with an impressive success in a 7f handicap at Lingfield this afternoon.

The daughter of Pivotal, who runs in the colours of Bluehills Racing Ltd, was a third winner inside two weeks for the Jeremy Noseda team.

She was sent off the 11/10 market leader and victory was never in doubt for the four-year-old.

The early pace was not strong but jockey Jamie Spencer was well aware of this and was close on the tails of the leaders.

The pacesetters kicked off the final turn but Triple Charm was still full of running. Spencer switched his mount to the middle of the track and she picked up strongly to claim the lead inside the final furlong, winning by a length and three quarters.

Roxelana lands the odds

ROXELANA opened her account at odds of 8/11 in a mile maiden at Lingfield this afternoon.

The daughter of Oasis Dream was having her second career start, stepping up on her recent debut when she was runner-up at the same track.

She was running over a furlong further this time and settled into a nice rhythm under Jimmy Fortune.

The leader, Devote Myself, kicked off the turn stealling a few lengths on the field. Fortune, however, did not panic and went in pursuit aboard Roxelana.

Paul Makin's filly had to work hard to see off that rival but was on top at the finish, passing the post a head in front.

Fortune said: "She was made to work hard but she has won it well in the end."

Burke's Rock too good at Lingfield

BURKE'S Rock opened her account with minimal fuss when taking a mile maiden at Lingfield this afternoon.

The daughter of Cape Cross had finished an unlucky fourth on her debut at the same venue last month and stepped up on that effort to score in taking fashion.

She was always in the front-rank under Jimmy Fortune and showed a sharp turn of foot to take over the running on entering the final furlong.

Once in front Fortune never had to get too serious and Burke's Rock went on to record a two length victory.

Fortune said: "I don´t think anything went to plan last time, but today it worked out well. She´d probably get a bit further."

Tornado Force almost provided Shalfleet with a double on the day when going down narrowly in the 1m2f handicap.

Western Aristocrat - seasonal bow in Dubai

WESTERN Aristocrat is on course for a shot at the Godolphin Mile in Dubai on Saturday, March 31.

The Mr Greeley colt proved progressive through 2011, winning the Grade 1 Jamaica Handicap and then finishing a somewhat unlucky third in top class competition in the Hollywood Derby.

Now, trainer Jeremy Noseda is preparing the four-year-old colt for the Group 2 on Tapeta at Meydan.

He said: "Western Aristocrat has multiple entries on Dubai World Cup night but at this moment we are getting him ready for a crack at the Godolphin Mile.

"He found his top form when competing abroad towards the end of last year and feel that he is a horse capable of improving again.

"In my opinion, this race stacks up as ideal for him. He will handle the Tapeta well and, rated 113, is entitled to be very competitive in a race such as this."

Tornado roars to Wolves win

TORNADO Force's progression under trainer Jeremy Noseda continued at Wolverhampton this afternoon.

The three-year-old gelding made it back-to-back wins in convincing style in a 1m 4f handicap.

The step up to genuine middle-distances appears to be a significant contributory factor to his improvement.

Having finished second on his first run for Noseda over nine furlongs, he has been raised in trip and the result has been a brace of triumphs.

Jockey Ryan Moore was aboard for this one and the pair were soon relatively close up. Moore booted on Tornado Force on the turn for home and the race was soon in safe keeping.

The 8/11 favourite galloped clear in the closing stages to win as he liked by no less than six lengths.
