Betty F to contest Sandringham

SHALFLEET will be represented at Royal Ascot on Friday when Betty F runs in the Sandringham Stakes.

The mile Listed handicap has attracted a field of 24 runners in which Betty F has been drawn 23. Frankie Dettori is booked to ride.

Betty F is a homebred filly of Charles Fox and Ben Wilson’s. She is a daughter of Frankel, out of the mare Instance, who was a fine servant to Shalfleet when racing in the silks of the Hon William Vestey.

Betty F made a winning start to her career before a steep step up in grade to the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes in which she was eighth, beaten just over 6 lengths by Clemmie.

The Shalfleet inmate has had one subsequent start when third in a novices race at Lingfield in April.

Jeremy said: “Betty F is in good order. I’m inclined to think she didn’t perform to her best on her first run of the season but she deserves her place in the line-up.

“The fast ground shouldn’t be a problem and neither will her draw. We’ll roll the dice and see how she goes.”
