Garrus wins at HQ

GARRUS built on a promising debut with victory last night on his second career start.

The Acclamation colt was third at Windsor last month and subsequently lined up as the even money favourite for a Newmarket novice contest.

Jockey James Doyle rode him in the six-furlong race and always had his mount there or thereabouts.

The Shalfleet horse took up the running with around a furlong to go and showed a good attitude in pulling two and a half lengths clear by the line.

It kept trainer Jeremy Noseda’s strike-rate at a very healthy 26 per cent and signalled that the stable two-year-olds are ready to make their mark over the second half of the season.

Jeremy said: “I’m delighted with Garrus’ win. He is a genuine horse who tries hard. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that he can progress again from his win.”
