Gronkowski faces biggest test to date

GRONKOWSKI will try and book his spot in the Kentucky Derby tomorrow when he contests the Burradon Stakes at Newcastle.

Victory in the mile Listed race would complete a four-timer for the Lonrho colt and secure enough points to ensure his place in the line-up for Kentucky Downs.

Trainer Jeremy Noseda said: "Gronkowski left for Newcastle on Thursday morning.

"He's approaching the race in great shape. It's the biggest test of his life so far but he is ready for action."

On what is a big day for Shalfleet Stables, Abe Lincoln represents the yard at the All-Weather Championships Finals day at Lingfield.

The five-year-old runs in the mile and a quarter Easter Classic.

Jeremy added: "Abe is in good order and, granted a truly-run race, I feel he is well capable of being competitive.

Saturday sees Intrepidly contest the Rosebery Handicap at Kempton where he failed to fire earlier in the month.

His trainer said: "He was a little bit disappointing on his last start but I'm inclined to put a line through that and am happy to give him another chance."
