Mr Ritz triumphs on debut

MR RITZ made a winning start to his career when striking in a seven-furlong novice race at Kempton yesterday.

The Oasis Dream colt, owned by the Honorable Earle Mack, has taken a while to mature to the point where he was ready for the racecourse.

But he made up for lost time with an impressive debut triumph, in which he had to overcome the widest draw of stall 14.

Jockey Martin Harley did a good job negating some of the effects of such a wide berth by promptly popping out Mr Ritz, who was soon in the slipstream of La Maquina.

Into the closing stages and the Shalfeet representative served it up to the long-time leader.

The pair pulled well clear but in the end Mr Ritz mastered La Maquina and scored by a length at odds of 6/1.

Jeremy said: “We’ve had to take our time with Mr Ritz. He’s a raw, immature horse but I am delighted with the way he has broken his maiden.

“He will progress for the experience and I am sure there is more to come from him next year.”
